GLORIA SWANSON.
A SUPERB PICTURE,
The audionc,e was spellbound last night at the Lyceum in seeing and hearing Gloria Swanson;in “The Trespasser, ’’ Nothing we can remember her doing in silent pictures was so fine, so thrilling, so powerful in its immediate appeal to basic human emotions as her acting in this story. Her singing was beautiful, and would have done credit to any concert platform. Her speak*, ing voice was a happy surprise in its engaging quality and clearness. Her use of the voice was a lesson in elocution and the possibilities of expressing by varied inflections the most diverse emotions, such as crooning love of a child, sudden heart clutching terror t for the child's peril, or love for her husband, changing in one terrible hour to a storm of indignant protest against his father’s insults. “The Trespasser,’’ is a drama of the moment. Its setting is Chicago; its environment the “smart set.” And through its intimate study of a girl who becomes a trespasser in this restricted social sphere and in the lives of its people, the story delves into vital affairs of life.
