KENSINGTON CLUB ACTIVITY.
RESULTS OF PLAY TO DATE,
The wet weather experienced since the opening of the various bowiling greens has not had the same effect on the Kensington green as on others, owing mainly to the volcanic nature of the soil in this quarter; hence good progress has been made in the progressive pairs and fours competitions and also with club competitions.
Progressive pairs and fours are carried out on a series of plans for any number of teams compiled in a handbook by the secretary. The handbook contains over 30 plans for all kinds of competition. Progressives take the place of the ordinary draw, but are far more interesting and exciting
Three kinds of club competition are in progress, viz., champion singles, handicap singles and pairs. So far results are as follow:
Singles.—McMath (3) v. Fricker (3), 24—9; J. Clark (6) v. Fncaer (3) 26—25; McMath (3) v. MePhee, (4) 28—9; Stringer (2) v. Hayward (0), 23—11; McMath (3) v, Clark (6), 24—23; Fawcett (5) v. Haykard (0), 24 —23; Fawcett (5) v. Hayward (0). (0), 23—16; Fawcett (5) v. A. Hilford (4), 27—17. Pairs. —Cliff and Clark v. Tibbitts and McMath, 28 —25. FOURS TOURNAMENT. THURSDAY’S PLAY. On Thursday an afternoon tourney of three rbunds and 12 heads was held. Owing to the threatening weather at midday only seven teams competed. The weather cleared later and a splendid afternoon's enjoyment ensued. Details of play are as follow: First Round. —Simon’s team 1 beat Curtis’ - team, 16 —10; Wood beat Pearce, 15—7; Scott beat Roberts, 12—6; Woolley a bye. Second Round. —Pearce beat Woolley, B—7;8 —7; Roberts beat Wood, 15 —8; Simons beat Scott, 14 —8; Curtis a bye.
Third Bound. —Wood beat Simons, 10—7; Boberts beat Woolley, 13—6; Scott beat Curtis, 15—>6, Simons, Boberts, Wood and Scott, 2 wins and 1 loss each, played off the final round, Simons' team (J. Clark, Steadman, Stringer and Simons (a) ) proving the winners.
THE FINAL.
The final game of last week's tournament of the Kensington Club was played on Tuesday evening between the following teams: Hanlon, Britland, McKay and McNauMon, and J. A. Clark, .Steadman, Stringer and Simons. At the beginning McNaughton's team ran away, and with 8 heads gone the scores were 12—3 in their favour. The next six heads went to Simons, and at the 14th the score stood 12 —'11. McNaughton’s team took three on the next three heads and Simons’ team one on the 18th, the scores being 15 — 12. On the 19th Simons' team was lying five up when ; McKay drew the shot with his last bowl and it was not disturbed. On the 20th head Simons setyed three, making 15 —15 on the last head. When the skips went up to play, McNaughton lay two and the head was not disturbed, MeNaugjhton's win was popular, and the team do serve credit for good, consistent play.
