QUEEN CARNIVAL

THREE-FIGURE RETURNS.

The School Queen Carnival is still progressing favourably towards its objective. Oh Wednesday the total realised by the children and their helpers amounted to £llO 4s 9d.

The daily stall at the school is a steady source of income, what with the sale of confectionery, fruit, cookery, sweets and produce and the running of various competitions. At lunch time on Wednesday, a competition for a handsome cushion was decided, and hilarious cheers from the youngsters nearly “lifted the roof” when it was made known that the headmaster, Mr Moore Jones, was the winner.

Through the generosity of Paramount Pictures, Ltd, a handsome' sum was netted for the school by a benefit screening of Clara Bow in “Get your Man.” Each of the rival" queens sold tickets for the entertainment and the returns were as follows:—Peach Blossom £4 15s, Golden Marigold £2 4s 6d, Blue Bell £1 9s and Red Rose £1 Ss 6d, a total of £9 17s. Mr Hiinter Harris contributed the hall, lights and music, leaving the sum mentioned for the school, which when the subsidy is added will effect substantial improvements. On Wednesday a dance was held for the Red Rose queen in the Parish Hall. On Saturday Blue Bell will have a street stall and on Wednesday next the last-named queen will have a concert in the Criterion Theatre, in which some of the foremost artists from Wlimngarei will participate as well as local favourites. ■ ■
