METHODIST CHURCH

SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY,

Last Sunday the Hikurangi Methodists celebrated their Sunday School Anniversary. The morning service was conducted by the Rev. E, B. iCharabers and that of the evening by the Rev. H. V. Utting, A feature of both services was the tuneful singing of the children.

On Wednesday evening a concert in connection with the anniversary was held in the Criterion Theatre. A fair audience listened with appreciation to the various items, all of which went off without a hitch.

‘ 4 Living Waxworks, ’’ .perforilted by 20 children representing different characters, was a great success. Each model was dusted and wound up by the showman, w'hen with stiff, doll-like movements it went to the front of the stage and recited a few lines. Other dialogues were “Days of the Week” (seven girls), “Japanese Song” (six girls) and “Little Nurses.” In the last-named 10 children dressed as nurses appeared with a patient lying in bed. The doctor came and all spoke their little parts with great success. Six little girls dressed as old ladies sang and then a number of very tiny tots sang “My Kitty.” Recitations were given by Isa Fenney, Keith Harris, Madge McCarthy and Beryl Brown, and Elva Harris executed a very pretty little dance. In the second half, older performers staged a cleve* farce entitled “The Mental Doctor’s Patients,” during which shouts of laughter testified to the delight of the audience at the absurd situations created. Solos were sung by Mrs Leadley and Messrs Smith (humorous), Mcllroy and Pratt.
