T; GATHERING VALUABLE BATA. DISEASE-FREE CROPS. PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day. On a mission which means a great deal to the seed industry of this Dominion and the scientific development of disease-free crops, Dr.* Cunningham, Chief Mycologist of the Plant Research Station, Palmerston North, is entering on the final stages of an extensive tour abroad as representative of New Zealand. He attended the Imperial Mycologieal Conference in London for the second occasion, and when he returns it is anticipated that highly important information will be available concerning the methods of control of plant disease in other countries, ’•Prom Canada, Dr. Cunningham has arranged shipments to the Dominion of disease-free lines of potatoes, turnips and swedes, and if suitable there will be propagated on areas at the Massey College and in the South Island. In England, Dr. Cunningham investigated the problem of swede seed free of dry rot, urging growers there to take precautions against the disease. Another line of investigation dealt witli disease in potatoes. Dr. Cunningham expects to return in January.
