HYDRO-ELECTRICITY
POWER FOR THE NORTH
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS,
(Special to "Northern Advocate.") DARGAVILLE, This Day.
Interviewed this morning by & representative of the "North Auckland Times," 'the chairman of the Hobson Electric Power Board, Mr J. A. McLean, ' stated that before the Whangarei and Otamatea counties can link up ■with the Hobson Electric Power Board it will be necessary to advertise the petitions for a month and the petitions will then be circulated. The object of securing the necessary .signatures, 25. per cent, of the ratepayers of the two counties, should be completed two months sooner, if committees set up by the two counties will hurry the matter along. The petitions, having boon submitted to the Governor-General, a Proclamation will he gazetted authorising the formation of an enlarged power board of 12 members, the representation being: Whangarei County five, Otamatea County three, Hobson County three and Dargaville Borough one. j On the returning of the petitions and the election of members, the board should be established in three months, even should an election be j necessary, but, as hitherto mentioned; a great deal depends on the expedition with which the petitions are returned and the machinery put hi motion.
"The Minister of Public Works has advised the Hobson Power Board," said Mr McLean, "that the'erection of the main power line from Henderson to a point, or points, of supply with the board's area, so far agreed upon, will be put in hand irnmodiately."
The board has completed a contract, for the supply ■ of power from the Government's station at Arapmh.
