KRISHNAMURTI.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —I was interested in your article on Ivrishnamurti in Monday's issue, and would, like to supplement the information you gave about this young man, whom certain Thcosophists affirm to be a Supreme Teacher. The tenets of these people are as follows: Great root-races succeed one another at long

periods on the earth. We are the Fifth Sub-race of the Fifth Root Race, and

the (Sixth is shortly to appear. On the appearance of each sub-race a Supreme Teacher appears to guide its destinies, and to enable it. to make its contribution to the religions, of the world. The present Fifth Root Race is that of the Aryans, and the Supreme Teacher of the second, third and fourth sub-races was the same Being who had worked off Ins Ivanna and so merited Nirvana, but who came back to help mankind. This Being was born as Hermes, Zoroaster, Orpheus and, finally, as Gautama, who passed on to union with The Father. Then came another Being, Christ, but He did not incarnate, merely using the Body of Jesus of Nazareth. The following quotation from an article by Miss E. K, McNeile in “East and West," April 1913, is illuminating; “Jesus was an advanced dis-

ciple, but not yet in the iinal stages of the way. He was born about 100 B.C, (! !) and Was initiated in an Essene community, where He learnt much of the wisdom of The East. His spotless mind and body made Him a suitable vehicle for the use of the Great Teacher —The Great One —The Christ. In the scene in the garden, the Christ, having finished His Great work of teaching, returned the body to His suffering disciple, in whose person the last scenes of the great tragedy were enacted. 77 And now, at long last, this Great teacher at the dawn of the sixth sub-race is using the body of another disciple, namely ,J. Krishnamurti! Such is the , blasphemous and pernicious rubbish that surrounds this “(Great Teacher, 77 and sane people are asked to listen to it and much more equally ridiculous. Krishnamurti, poor man, has had an unfortunate experience, and finds himself worshipped by the members of The Star in the East. Let us hope that he is breaking away from the worse than false position in ‘which he finds himself, and that he will give the death-blow to the claim that he is an incarnation or manifestation of a “Supernatural Teacher. 77 — Yours etc., H. T. STEELE 1 . The Vicarage. Wlvangarei.
