METEORIC VELOCITY

SCHNEIDER CUP FINALS

STAGGERING PREDICTION.

400 MILES AN HOUR. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, August .19,

Though the official timing was not disclosed, it was estimated by an expert that a speed of quite 340 miles an hour was at times achieved today by Flying Officer Ateherley, who flew the Gloster-Napier 4 twice over the Schneider Cup course from Oalshot. The trophy was won for Great Britain in Italy two years ago with a speed of 281.48 miles an hour. Apparently, however, the GlosterNapier 2 is expected to prove the fastest of the machines which will compete for the trophy. iA speed of 400 miles an hour is predicted for this machine.

Her trial trip will be made in secret when the aerodrome is closed to everyone not officially connected with the practices for the race.
