RAGING GALE

VELOCITY OF 68 MILES. LITTLE DAMAGE DONE, i 1 , . (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Surprisingly little damage was done by the heavy north-westerly gale which reached 68 miles per hour in spasms early this morning. Structures damaged consisted chiefly of houses In the course of erection, sheds, fences, etc. Two houses, being built at Island Bay, were rendered roofless.

The gale had a peculiar effect on a half completed bulk storage tank for the Import Company at Lower Hutt, the tank being crumpled up like paper. The scaffolding remaining on the upper portion of the D.I.C. building, Lambtou Quay, commenced to flap in the wind and when a pole fell between two cars, the taxi stand nearby I was quickly evacuated. The scaffolding was secured by ropes.
