Lightning struck a plane when at the height of 4000 feet over the Mojave Desett. and fragments liteially rained fiofn the clouds. Virgil Clihe wad piloting when a flash Struck the gag tank. The flier’s bioken and rhangled body was quickly found. Fragments of the wings continued to descend for half an houf.
