CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL
OPENED AT RUAWAI. (Special to “Northern Advocate.’’) MAUNGATUROTO, This Day. A typical instance of the trend of education in New Zealand is provided by the Ruawai Consolidated School, which was opened by the Minister of Education (the Hon. H. Atmore) yesterday afternoon in the 'presence of a large gathering. /
The new school is to provide accommodation for children from the Ruawai, Nauiuai, Aw a run and Whenurua districts. The children arc to be conveyed to the consolidated school by teacher-drivers in a. Hoot of four motor buses. The building is a. fine structure, partly new, the original Raupo school having been added to with four class rooms, the secondary section consisting of science and class rooms. On the way to Ruawai the Minister met several deputations and promised sympathetic consideration of requests. On the way up to Mauxigaturoto a deputation met the Minister at Helensville. The leaders of the deputation were Messrs C. West (ehairniap of the local school committee) and Mr A. Day (headmaster of the high school). Consolidation, a dental clinic, and better railway services so that childern could be consolidated at Hclensvillo were urged. It was said that three committees were interested. It was pointed out that the train from Kaipara Flats did not reach Helensvrlle daily until 9.d0 a.nu Sometimes it was late.
The Minister gave a sympathetic reply. He said that he hoped to open the now high school for the district, which would bo available by October. Accompanying the Minister North are Messrs A. Burns (■chairman of the Education .Board), D. W. Dunlop and J. Hoe (member of the board for the district).
The Minister is being piloted through Kaipara electorate by the Hon. Mr Carrington, as the member (the Rt, Hon. J. CL Coates) is in Wellington.
