GROSSLY EXAGGERATED
INFLUENZA IN SAMOA. NO CAUSE EOR ALARM. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) AUCKLAND, This Day
Any doubt left by the sensational
allegation emanating from representatives of tin 1 Alan regarding a supposed outbeak of influenza in Samoa are dispelled by assurances given by passengers who returned from the islands by the Tofua yesterday. They reported comparative freedom from ill-health among the Samoans, and could deduce no evidence which would Justify the
alarming report. '‘There has been no influenza epi
demic in Samoa of any consequence, ’• said Mr H. P. Ritclhio, retiring Director of Agriculture in Samoa, who is visiting the Dominion prior to taking a similar position in Tonga. “The usual amount of influenza is prevalent, and there have been a. few deaths, but
the position is no worse than in previous years, and need give no cause for alarm. There is absolutely no truth in the exaggerations published in New Zealand. “
