'Schneider Cup.—The London Aero Club has received entries from three Italian machines for the Schneider Cup. Entries close on January 1. Pickwick Papers.—A section of manuscript of the Pickwick Papers was auctioned at Sothebys for £7500. It describes the ’ midnight meeting of: Arabella Allen with Pickwick and Winkle at the Clifton Down. Grand Duke 111. —The Russian Grand Duke Nicholas, is extremely ill with pneumonia in Paris.
Newsprint Factory.—A group of Amsterdam financiers conferred with the Chilean Consul preliminary to establishing a newsprint factory in Chili.
Imperial Conference. —It is understood that the Dominions’ office, London, addressed Prime Ministers last week asking their views with regard to postponing the Imperial Conference of 1930.
Standard Hours.—The full Arbitration Court at Melbourne granted the application of the employers that the standard hours in the timber industry shall be 48 weekly. In most branches of this industry, hitherto, they have been 44 hours. J
