The announcement, that the Government would make available £2OOO as a subsidy, caleulate-d on the 'basis *of standard wages, for relief work in Wellington City, was made ’by -Sir Joseph Ward to a deputation of Wellington's Members of Parliament on Saturday. It was pointed -out that there were 355 registered unemployed in Wellington, of whom 145 had dependents. Later, the members of the deputation saw the Mayox*, who stated that ho w-o-ul/d disleutss the matter with the Prime Minister today as to standard wages for -all relief workers employed bv the council.
