(Special to 44 Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND 1 , This Day.

A spectacular fire at Papatoetoe yesterday afternoon resulted in the complete destruction of a large residence of 13 rooms in Station Road, and considerable damage to the Central Theatre at present in course of erection. The house was owned and occupied by R, Corbett. It was a building of two storeys surrounded by trees and saparated by a space of about 20 feet from the theatre being -built for Mr Corbett by J. R. iSimpson, of Greenlane. The only member of the family at home was Mrs Corbett, who was sitting in the garden behind the house.

Neighbours noticed smoke pouring out of the front windows and raised the alarm. The Papatoetoe Eire Brigade arrived, in a few xninuates, but found the house was so fiercely ablaze as to banish all hope of saving it, even had an ample water supply been available. It was then decided to concentrate on protecting the theatre. The insurances were £2500 on! the building and £2750 on the contents. OUTBREAK IN GARAGE. MOTOR TYRES DESTROYED.

Eden Road, originating in rubbish near a large heap of motor tyres, valued at £7OO, all of which were destroyed. Oil and benzine added to the conflagration, but the brigade saved the main building.
