AVHANGARET COMPETTTIONS. AVhangarei hockey has improved appreciably during the past few years and on this season’s showing in the competitions there is every evidence of the AVhangarei Association turning out a representative team that should bo, able to hold its own against city or provincial teams. The ladies’ section is particularly strong, and several matches in the competition are being played today. High School A. is meeting Old Girls, who have had a good record .so far. High School B and C arc playing Maungakaramoa and Avoca respectively, while at Portland, Hikurangi is encountering Portland. Hikurangi as a new team has a good record and seenis determined to keep up its good panic. On Saturday, in the men’s section, Mata meets Wliangarei B and Portland tries conclusions with Mangapai. These matches should proven to be brimful of exciting incidents' and movements, as the teams engaged are fairly' evenly matched and are capable of playing a good game.
