ONERAHI NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs Higgins, of Matamata, arrived last week to put in a seaside visit and to look up old friends. Full advantage has been taken of the recent fine weather, and a very jolly time was spent as the guests of the latter’s sister, Mrs F. C. Frogley, and Mr Frogley.

Miss M. Crowe arrived on Saturday from Auckland for a brief holiday, and is enjoying her visit immensely as the guest of her cousin, Mr G, W, Johnson, and Mrs Johnson,

Mr and Mrs A. M. Fagan and two children arrived on Monday from Te Puke, for a winter holiday, and as old residents of the district, have since been busily engaged looking up friends of former days and re-visiting old scenes. They are the guests of the former’s parents, Mr and Mrs D. W. 0. Fagan. BUNKERING. The s.s. Mako came up harbour late on Thursday, and, after replenishing her bunkers, proceeded next morning to Portland to load cement for southern ports. ONER AHI- TAM ATE RA U ROAD, • P.W.D. workmen are now engaged clearing the recent slip on the above road, below' Mr J. Beasley’s property. The slip is of greater extent than was at first thought, and apparently it will bo some days ’ore the last of the debris is cleared away and the road again open to traffic. GIRL GUIDES’ AFTERNOON. ; A really delightful matinee enter tainment was given on Saturday in the Town Hall by the members of the Onerahi Girl Guides troop. Invitations were sent out to the parents of the rank and file and the public, and a large and interested attendance resulted. The affair was a great success and a very pretty programme was gone through without a hitch. The entertainment opened with a well acted little play, “The Princess’ Dream,’’ in which no small histrionic talent was shown by the young performers. Miss Zelma Frogley, for the principal part, made a fascinating princess, while the part of Prince Charming was delightfully taken by Miss Gladys Orr. Other members of the cast were “Cupid,” (Annie Beasley), “Fairy Queen” (Marjorie Skullan), “Gentleman” (Marion Cominings), “Comedians”— Worg, Francie, Beckie; “Schoolboy ’’ (Pearl Nordstrand), “Sailor” (Violet Marsh), “Peasant Woman” (Hazel Fennel), “Burglar” (Cissie Orr). Misses Lily Marsh, Zoe Spratt and Thelma Nordstrand played the part of fairies to the life, while Connie Beasley led a troop of shuddersome and horrific ghosts. Other items on the programme were: Song, Lily Marsh; recitation, Hazel Pennel; vocal trio, Pearly, Annie and Francie; recitation, Nora Shipman; piano solo, Elyin Weir. All these were excellently rendered, and each was appauded to the echo. After the chorused Guide songs, “Robin Hood” and “Ist Onerahi Girt Guides,” the programme closed with the singing of the National Anthem and a round of cheering. A store of good things had been provided by the mothers of the troop, and a dainty afternoon tea served to the guests.

“HERE’S LUCK.” The work of transporting the voluminous stock up the steep from the waterside premises to Mr F. C. ProgIcy’s new store, on the plateau, has been completed and business in the new location has gone on in full swing for the last day or two. A stock of good usquebaugh was laid in, and, by way of house-warming, customers were invited to toast success to the new establishment.
