Mr T. Beveridge, of the staff of the Public Works Department, Wellington, is spending his annual furlough witS his parents.
Mr W. H. M. Yarrow has consented to contest the seat on the Bdrough Council rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr A. D. Jack.
At a special meeting of the Board of Governors of the New Zealand Institute, held at Wellington, Mr B. C. Alston was elected president, in place of the late Dr. J. A. Thomson.

Burt, Wellington; and Messrs O. C. Ormcrod and J. Tv. Heughan.
