LONDON WOOL SALES,

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT,

The Department of Agriculture has received the fallowing cablegram, dated 2qd instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:—

Wool sales closed yesterday. Large attendance of home and Continental buyers throughout; competition brisk and general. Compared with closing rates last series, super merino were 5; per cent and good shafty 5 per cent to 10 per cent dearer. Other sorts were unchanged. All grades of greasy crossbred were in -small supply, dosing generally 10 per cent higher compared with December, with exceptional lots of medium crossbred frequently 15 per cent. Only a small quantity of sliped offered, -which advanced. 7-J per cent. Average closing rates were: —6O/64's super, nominal 2/4 to 2/6 per lb, average 1/9 to 2/1; 56/58% nominal 2/3 to 2/6; 50/56’s, 2/ to 2/3; 48/50 'ls, ,1/9 to 1/11; 44/46’s, 1/7 to 1/8; 36/40's, 1/5 to 1/6. Of total Colonial offerings, 88,000 bales were sold —51,000 for export, including 2500 for America. 'Market closed very firm, with all sections of trade buying. Next series commence ’ 13th Miarch.
