LAWN TENNIS
RECALL OF FRENCHMEN.
WANTED TO KEEP FIT:
(Received 1 p.m.) PARIS, February 2,
The Lawn Tennis Federation has cabled the team in Australia to return at the earliest possible opportunity, in view of the suggested possibility of their developing staleness, 'Critics point out that, apart from when aboard ship, neither Borotra nor Brugnon has had a week’s rest from tennis since France won the Davis Cup. If they become stale and over-heavy tho burden would fall on Lacoste and Cochet. Tho former, owing to business calls, is having to reduce the time devoted to championship lawn tennis, Cochet is taking things easily during the winter.
The French Davis Cup team will probably be Cochet and Lacoste for the singles and Borotra and Brugnon for the doubles. India and New Zealand at the , last minute have entered, the latter for the first time. The United States is expected to win comfortably in the American zone. A keen struggle between Australia, Britain, Denmark and South Africa is forecasted in the European zone—A. and N.Z.
