STABILISED CURRENCY
FRANC AT DUE VALUE,
(Received 2 p.m.) PARIS, February 2
M. Poincare informed the House of Deputies that the franc had boon virtually stabilised at one-fifth its value, and the cost of living was five times what it was before the war, therefore the francs was now about its own value, an exception being the salaries of Civil Servants, which had increased sevenfold since the war. The statement indicates that M. Poincare has decided to stabilise the franc, probably slightly exceeding 121 sterling. He added that the debt agreement had not been ratified, because nobody was able to transfer francs over a period of 62 years, but France could pay her debts and was doing so, making an effort in every way to complete her financial recovery, though the task , had only begun.—A. and N.Z.
