OPEN SWITCH

TRAIN DERAILED,

MR COS6RRAVE ABOARD,

EOUL PLAY INFERENCE'.

(Received 12.30 p.ra.) OTTAWA, January 30.

The train bringing Mr W. T. Cosgrave, President of the Dail Eireann, to Ottawa from Philadelphia, was derailed at Limoges. .

Mr Cosgrave and party were uninjured, but one member of the train crew w'as killed and several injured. It is believed that the engine of the train ran into an open switch.

Officials,of the Canadian National Railway sent a special train to bring Mr Cosgrave 30 miles to Ottawa. Reports that the disaster constituted an attempt on Mr Cosgrave's life caused Secret Service officers to rush mounted police to the scone of the disaster. They were under orders to make a complete investigation, in order to determine whether some one had tampered with the switch. —A. and N.Z.
