LAID TO REST

TWO FUNERALS YESTERDAY,

Although it was a holiday and scant notice had been given, two funerals which took place at Mauuu Cemetery yesterday afternoon were well attended by friends of the deceased and by representatives of the organisations with which they had been connected.

The first was that of the late Rev. C. E. Nicholas, an ex-postmaster at Whangarei and other places, and subsequently Anglican vichr of the Hikurangi and Kamo Parish. Many friends and parishioners paid their respects to his memory, and it was fitting that the fine service should have been conducted by the Rev. Edwards, who is at present in charge of deceased's old parish. Besides friends there was representation of the Whangarei Borough Council and of the Police Force at the burial of the late Mr J, S. Willcocks, who had been connected with both, as the borough inspector in one instance and as a sergeant in the other. An impressive service at the house and at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Edwards, and the .pall-bear-ers were his Worship the Mayor, Mr L. J. Brake, and Messrs C. L. Grange, C. Doel, E. R. Stainton, T. A. Williams and W. J. Dawson, all members of the Borough staff. The Police Force was represented by Senior-Ser-geant O'Grady, Sergeant Blake, Detective Robertson and Constable Dennehy, while the Public Trust Office aud officials of other institutions were also present.

Numerous floral emblems were forwarded in both instances. - ,
