PORTLAND DROWNING
INQUEST OPENS
The inquest into the circumstances concerning the death of James William Horne Giles was opened in the Whangarei Courthouse this morning, before Mr L. J. Brake, J.P,, acting coroner, and a jury consisting of Messrs A. T. Brainsby (foreman), C. D. Moloney, H. T. Wilson and J. Anderson.
Arthur Edward Giles gave evidence of having identified the body as that of his brother, who at the time of his death was 41 years of ago. When he met his brother in Auckland on Boxing Day last the deceased had been in the best of health.
Mr H. C. Eishworth, on behalf of thle widow, who resides at Wanganui, asked that, in, view of developments which might possibly arise, a post mortem examination be held.
This was granted, and the inquest was adjourned until Tuesday, February 14, at 10 a.m.
