MARLBOROUGH HOUSE
GETTING READY FOE RJHNOE.
LONDON, November 8. Simplicity dominates the alterations to Marlborough House, which is expected to be ready for residence b£ the Prince of Wales at Christmas. The entrance door opens into a saloon rising to the full height of the house. It is decorated in gold and green and magnificetnly lighted by a Wren dome.
A suite of eight rooms on the first floor is paired with white satin stripes, which' throw the walnut woodwork into relief. . The stark severity of the smoking room is left as King Edward jokingly arranged it. Thousands of dummy books line the walls, completely hiding the doors. All bear false titles, such as “Nine Tails by a Cat.” The books which conceal the doorways contain the clues to the latter. The passage out of the red drawing room which is suitable for balls, runs half the length of the bouse and opens on to a lawn.—A. and N.Z.-and Sydney “Sun.”
