Mr F. G. Orpwood, of the Defence Department, who recently underwent an operation at a private hospital in Auckland, is making a satisfactory recovery.
Mr A. Stubbs, formerly traffic manager of railways at Whangarei, accompanied by Mrs Stubbs, .arrived yesterday on a holiday visit amongst old friends.
Rev. W. Gray Dixon, the wellknown Presbyterian minister, returned to Wellington by the Remuera on Monday, after a trip to the Old Country.
The death has occurred, at Martou, of Mrs Isaac Gibbs following a motor accident about two weeks ago. Mrs Gibbs, who was in her 87th year, was born at Kent, England, in 1840, and married Mr Isaac Gibbs in England.
His Grace,. Archbishop Redwood, returned to Wellington by the Tahiti after a visit to Australia, where he attended the* annual meeting of the Roman Catholic bishops and archbishops of Australia, and enjoyed a short holiday.
Mr G. S Moody, who lias been mayor of Opotiki for the past eight years, and who is also a member of the county council, is amongst visitors to Whangarei. He has an owner’s interest in two horses. Mr Moody is staying at Kamo Springs and after the races he proposes to make a tour ■through the . North.
Mr E. G. Jellicoe, barrister, who practised in Wellington some years ago and subsequently returned to England, arrived by the Niagara on Monday on a visit to New Zealand. Mr Jellicoe twice stood as a Liberal candidate against the present Lord Birkenhead in ithe Walton division of Liverpool. Mrs Jellicoe accompanies him.
