“BACK TO BEAUTY.”
WOMAN’S EMANCIPATION FROM MASCULINITY. “Back to beauty” is the motto today of Paris fashion designers. Dressmakers are striving to “rescue” the Parisienne from the ugly conception of feminine adornment to which in their opinion the ultra-utility vogue is leading. Already grotind has been gained in the battle for a longer skirt, and woman —-as may be seen by the reappearance -of longer dresses in the windows of fashionable shops—has given way. Bags bearing designs copied from old tapestries, dainty lingerie exquisitely embroidered, and handkerchiefs on the designing of which as much, artistic skill is lavished as for an evening gown are the trifles that show the trend.
Pleats, frills, draperies —anything to add variety and break the severe lines of the slim silhouette-—indicate the early disappearance of the more “masculine” mode.
