THE HUMAN RACE
SUBJECT TO MANY ILLS THE PHYSICIAN’S PART. I —- SPECULATIONS OF PRESIDENT COOLIDGE. 1 (United Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received 12.10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 17. President Coolidge addressing the annual session of the American MediI cal Association declared that early in the nineteenth century there were only three medical schools and two general hospitals in the United States, j He outlined the rapid progress since, particularly in the past half century, j. stressing the development of the Ped- | era 1, State and municipal health orga nisadions. The President said, in part: “The i human race is by no moans young. It „has readied a state of maturity, it is inheritor of every wide experience, it has located a great many fixed stars in the firmament, and it is a truth, no doubt, that a multitude of others await revelations by more extended research. I “Somewhere in human nature there jis still a structural weakness. We do ' not do .so well as wo know we should, we make many constitutions enact many laws, laying out a course of aeItion providing the method of relation- | ship one with another, which, theoretj ically, is above criticism, but they do j not come into full observance and cfi feet. i “Society is still afflicted with crime land among the nations there are still j wars and rumours of wars. What part i the physician will play in the further j advancement of the well-being of the (world is an interesting speculation. No [one can doubt that if humanity could j be brought to a state of physical welli being many of our social problems j would disappear.—A. and N.Z.
