POPULATION GROWTH. APPRECIABLE RATIO. (Received 2 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The population of the Commonwealth at March 31 last was 6,017,210, that of New South Wales being 2,308,333 and of Victoria 1,691,486. The total increase for the year is 112,618. Since the census in April, 1921, the population has increased by 581,576, whereof 408,218 are natural increase, the total increase being a little over 2 per cent, per annum.

Tasmania alone showed a decrease. Her births exceeded the deaths, but excess departures . over arrivals outnumbered the excess, .of births by 2187.—A. and N.Z. ’
