CASE RE-OPENED
UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Permission to reopen a case was granted today by Mr Young, S.M. The defendant, Thomas Grace, had been sentenced last Tuesday to two months’ imprisonment for an assault on Frederick Moore, a second-hand dealer. Grace’s solicitor this morning said that defendant knew nothing about Tuesday’s hearing, and received no summons, though Moore swore on oath that he served it. Counsel attacked the method of allowing a civilian to serve a summons in a criminal ease.—Press Assn.
