WHANANAKI & WH ANGARURU.- • OPENING CEREMONIES. (From Our Special Reporter.) Whananaki' was en fete on Friday, when the newly constructed wharfwas formally opened. There was a representative party of officials from Whangarei and the ceremony was performed in the presence of a large number of residents.

Mr Allen Bell, M.P., for Bay of Islands, declared the wharf open, and his speech was followed by Messrs J. E. Holmes (Mayor of Whangarei), J. D. McKenzie (a former chairman of the Whangarei Harbour Board), Mr J. A. Finlayson (the present chairman), Mr L. Johnson- (Whangarei County Council), Mr W. M. Fraser (engineer of the Whangarei Harbour Board) and Mr Ferguson (contractor for the erection of the wharfL The visitors wore subsequently entertained by the townspeople. They remained at Whananaki all night, and this morning wont on to Whangaruni, whore another wharf was declared open. A full report of yesterday and today’s proceedings will be published on Monday.
