WANGANUI WINS PREMIERSHIP AUCKLAND, This Day. The New Zealand speed championship motor boat race on Saturday was won j by the Wanganui representative, Miss Virginia, ■which completed the eight- ( lap course, approximately 16 miles, in i 39 min 41sec, having a runaway victory over the Auckland boat, Miss X,! which had bent her propeller through j striking floating timber. —Press Assn. j NGARO TURNS TURTLE. CREW PICKED UP. AUCKLAND, This Day. The 18ft speed boat Ngaro, owned by Norman and G. P. Robertson of Takapuna, capsized on Saturday afternoon immediately after winning the General Handicap race for speed boats. As the Ngaro -turned to come back to the starting pontoon , she attempted to make a sharp turn and appeared to hit the wash of some of the other competitors, which causedthe mishap. The crew, Norman Robertson and A. Pavitt, -were thrown 1 I into the water. They struck out for 1 '■ the upturned craft which had drifted ' some 20 or 30 yards away. The speed : boats Miss X and Baby Dev rushed to the assistance of the struggling men 1 and picked them up. The Ngaro was * taken in tow and afterwards righted. —Press Assn.
