RULING PRICES,

GOOD TONE

(Special to "Northern Advocate.") AUCKLAND, This Day. The supply of fruit at the Auckland City markets yesterday was very fair although, in some lines it was not so heavy as in recent weeks. Strawberries came forward in large quantities and met with a good demand, prices j ranging from 3s 3d to Is 9d per chip. > The supply of hothouse tomatoes I also increased and prices declined, i Gooseberries brought from 7s fid to to 8s 6d a case. Local cherries in fair supply sold readily from 19s to 23s per case. Sydney cherries were not in good order and prices fell to 3;!s per case for best grades. Local cooking plums sold at 8s per case. There was a heavy supply of new potatoes and the best grades brought Ifd to 2|d per lb. Canadian onions fell slightly, bringing from 22s to 24s per crate. New season's local onions sold at 2d per lb. Green peas remained steady, t'he supply still being fairly low and prices ranged from 3d to 4d per lb. Rhubarb brought from 2s Gd to 3s 9d per dozen bundles. Cucumbers from 7s to 14s per dozen. There was a rise in the prices for both hen and duck eggs. Farmers' butter fell slightly.

HIDES AND SKINS.

There was a firm demand for hides at the hide and skin sales yesterday,, and as there was not a large quantity prices remained practically on level with those of the previous sale. There was a better tone in the market for sheepskins, which came forward in good quantities. Dry skins improved slightly in value. Cow hides, best light grades, (i-Jd to 63d per lb; medium to heavy (ttd to fi 5-8 d; second grades, 5d to ojd; cut and slippy 4kl to sd.
