CAPE YORK
NEW LIGHTHOUSE SHIP.
SYDNEY, This Day,
The steamer Cape York, the second of two sister vessels built to the order of the Commonwealth lighthouse service, was successfully launched at Cockatoo Island. The vessel represents the last ship order on hand at Cockatoo Island Dockyard. There is no keel to be laid on the slip vacated by the Cape York.
j The keel of the Cape York was laid | within a few days of the launching on December 10 last of the sister vessel Cape Leeuwdn. The new steamer is 235 ft in length, with moulded beam of "sft, and depth from the upper deck of 22ft Gin. Built under special survey to Lloyd's 100 A 1 class, and to the special requirements of the Navigation Act for passenger vessels, the design of the vessel provides for a long bridge, chartroom, wireless-room, and accommodation of a complete character for officers, engineers, seamen and firemen, and lighthouse keepers and their families. The main propelling machinery is of the three-cylinder triple expansion invert 1 cylinder type, and is designed to propel the vessel at a speed of 13 to 14 knots. The vessel is also equipped with, special facilities for performing
the lighthouse services.
