Estimated stocks of cheese on hand August 1, London, Liverpool and Bristol were:— Canadian and American: 203,700 boxes. New Zealand and Australian: 41,150 crates, against 112,500 and 65,000 same time last year. Shipment of New Zealand produce arrived this week per s.s. Rotorua. HEMP AND WOOL. Hemp—Manila market dull and lower. "J" grade, August-October shipments, quoted at £45 10s value. Output January 1 to August 3, 699,000 bales, against 923,000 same time last year. New Zealand market quiet, value nominal and unchanged.

Wool—Yorkshire strike ' has not been terminated; little business has been done. Nominal quotations for tops:—64's (merino), warp, 4s 4d; 64's (merino) average, 4s 3d; others unchanged.

WESTFIELD PRICES.

Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report as follows on the Westfield sale o.u Wednesday:—

Beef.—There was a moderate yarding. Prices opened at last week's rates, but improved as the sale progressed by fully 2/ per 1001b. This rise was maintained until practically the end of the sale, when things again eased slightly. We quote: Extra choice ox, £2 2/ per 1001b; choice prime, £1 18/ to £2; other, £1 15/ tj £1 17/; prime young cow and heifer

beef made £1 15/ to £1 19/; others, £1 10/ to £1 14/.

Sheep.—Although, only a medium entry, some nice well finished linos were penned, and prices were equal to late quotations. Extra heavy prima wethers made £2 5/ to £2 8/6; heavy prime, £2 2/ to £2 4/6; light, £1 18/ io £2 1/; others, £1 .15/ to £1 17/(5; best heavy prime ewes, £1 15/ to £1 19/6; medium prime, £*1 .12/6 to £1 14/0; others, £.1 8/ to £1 32/.

Pig Si —a small yarding. Baconers were dull of sale, at prices slightly lower, but porkers remained unchanged. Heavy baconers made £3 17/ to £4 1,/r light medium baconers, £" 11/ to 16/; heavy porkers, £3 7/ to 3 16/; light and medium, £2 5/ to £3 6/.

Calves sold at late rates. Heavy vealers made £4 5/ to £5 5/; medium, £3 5/ to £4 4/; light, £2 10/ to £3 4/; small, £1 8/ to £2 8/.

We also report having held our usual monthly sale at Paparoa last Friday. There was a good yarding of pigs and cattle, and in spite of the inclement weather buyers were present in large numbers from the North, and as far south as Waitoa. The sale was one of the best ever held in Paparoa, prices for all classes being considerably in excess of last month's sale. We report:—

Pigs.—Baconers to £4 1/; porkers to £3 1/; sows in pig, £2 10/ to £8; good stores, £2 to £2 3/; good slips, £1 15/ to £1 18/; fair slips, £1 7/6 to £1 13./; small; 19/ to £1 4/; fat cows, to £12 7/6 for an extra heavy S.H. cow, on account of Messrs. O. and R. Coates. Others, £10 15/, £9, £8 10/, £7 15/, £6; 4-year S.H. bullocks, fair condition, £S to £8 6/; 3 and 4-year S.H. steers, £7 to £7 11/; 2£ to small 3-year steers, £6 to £6 10/; good 2-year S.H. steers, £5 to. £5 17/.
