FARMERS' UNION.
The monthly meeting of the Otonga branch of the N.Z.F.U. was held in th« school oi' Saturday night, June 13. Present —Messrs P. S. Mackenzie, chairman, F. B. Whhnp, J. O'Hagan, H. L. Wliimp, J. M. Dempster, C. H. Reid, M. Enwright, E. W. Thomas and D. Campbell, secretary. Considerable discussion took place on correspondence from the Railway Depart re the approach road to 'Otonga station and a motion was carried unanimously to pass the correspondence on to the Member for Marsden, Mr A. J. Murdoch. The following accounts were passed for payment —Expenses to Provincial Conference £3 12/-, expenses to Rangiahua £1 10/-, kerosene for halls 16/-,
The following remit was drafted: "That the Sub-provincial pay delegates' expenses to the conference and that branches contribute 'to the same in equal proportions." Various matters of local interest came up for discussion, after "which the meeting concluded. POLITICAL. J A me3ting of the Political Committee of the Country Party was held after the Union meeting, when Mr R. S. Mackenzie was voted to tlvc chair and Mr D. Campbell secretary. A political fund was opened, all members present subscribing. SCHOOL AFFAIRS. A farewell to Mr Tills was held in the school, Opuawhanga. Children from both schools and a number of "parents were present. On behalf of the children Master C. Powell presented Mr Tills with a clock as a small token of their esteem. I The smaller children asked Mr Tills to accept for Master A'thol Tills a | teddy bear, after which afternoon tea ] was served by the ladies. ! The meeting concluded bv singing I "He's a Jolly Good Fellow." ! Miss G. A. Rees has been appointed teacher of Otonga and Opuawhanga schools, but has not yet taken up duties. | The .weather for the past month has j been wet and stormv, with occasional | floods and heavy frosts. In spite of this stock is in good condition,, but i the most trying months are still ahead. I Fortunately good reserves of hay and roots nra "being held, which should tide over the critical period. PERSONAL. Mr R. S. Mackenzie and Mr J. O'Hagan have returned from Auckland. ! Mr Ivan Covich has recovered from his operation and is now enjoying good health. Miss J. J. Campbell arrived from Sydney by the Ulimaroa and is spending a couple of months in the district, i Mr R. S. Mackenzie left by fhe express on- Wednesday to attend a political conference in the Bay of Islands. I SOCIAI On "Wednesday e\*ening Mrs P. Covacich -entertained a number of the young people of the district, a "most; enjoyable time being spent.
