The "Daily Chronicle" states that the betrothal of Princess Mafalda to Prince Philip of Hesse has disappointed the Italian people, as Philip is a throneless Prince, nearly related to the Huhenzollerns. The Italians hoped that one of their Princesses would niv'irrv into the reigning family.

Philip is a Lutheran and the Princess is tf the House of Savoy and not suppose * to marry a Protestant without Papal dispensation. This difficulty however, has been cleared up. The marriage is likely to take place in August. The Prince and Princess will live in Rome, the Italian Xing. —A. and N.Z.
