HONOURED DEAD.
CHAIN OF WAR GRAVES,
BRITAIN'S COLLECTIVE MEM
ORIALS,
(Received 1.30 p.m.)
LONDON, March 20
A comprehensive description of the work of the Imperial War Graves Commission is given for the first time in the fifth annual report. It is stated that a chain of the graves of nearly 1,020,000 men encircles the earth.
One of the most impressive works of the Commission will be a collective monument at Galipoli rising 100 feet, on the highest ground above Cape Helles, on which will be inscribed the names of all the ships and units participating in the campaign, and also the names of British, Irish, Australians, New Zealanders and Indians with unknown graves.
At the southern entrance to the Suez Canal an obelisk, 65 feet high, is being erected in commemoration of the Indian troops. Similar collective memorials will be erected in France and Belgium.— Reuter.
