SECURITY OF ST. PAUL'S. "" two million scheme. A HERCULEAN TASK. (Received 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, February 6. Mr. John Todd, City Corporation surveyor, who served a . "dangerous structure" notice on the Dean andf Chapter of St. Paul's Cathedral, outlined to pressmen a scheme to save St. Paul's, w-hjeh, he said, "will make you gasp," Mr. Todd said that £200,000 was absolutely useless. His scheme would cost £2,000,000 and take 12 years to carry out. He would hold the dome in its present position with temporary supports and take down and rebuild the present rotten piers which, owing to Sir Christopher "Wren's -inferior filling, carried thrice the weight that solid Portland stone should. He would make a great round base of concrete, <>i feet thick, under the Cathedral. It was no boy's job, but rather a labour of Hercules.—Router.
