SCENIC RESERVES.
ANNUAL REPORT
New Zealand now possesses 749
scenic reserves with an area of 444,924 acres, states the annual report- of the Lands Department. As
years go oil the value of the reservations will be more and more appreciated. Moreover, as opportunity occurs, more suitable areas of private and Crown land will be secured.
Areas added in the past year include the following:—Fifty acres of bush between Lake Rotoiti and Hongi track; portions of the shore of Kawhia Harbour. On the Wanganui River a total of 4000 acres of forest clad land above Pipiriki; areas on the Wellington side of the Wanganui River totalling 3000 acres have been similarly reserved; and in Canterbury part of the Kaituna Vallev.
The Scenery Preservation account shows a credit balance of £3144, but as £4140 was brought forward there is a deficit on the year's operations of £!><)<;.
