HUGE SUMS INVOLVED

SIR S. KIDMAN SUED.

(Received 11.35 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. A writ for £156,000 has been issued against Sir Sidney Kidman, grazier, for land tax alleged to be due to the Commonwealth f»r the financial years 1915-16 to 1922-23.

Sir Sidney Kidman's case is one of those mentioned in the House of Representatives by Mr Sculling.—A. and N.Z.

It Avas stated in a cablegram from Melbourne on Thursday last that the Ministry had decided to appoint a Commission to inquire into the allegations made by Mr Sculling against the Government that the Taxation Department was not pressing claims for taxation against big land owners, 'one of whom Mr Sculling said owed the country £100,000. He claimed that there was £2,000,000 in land tax and the same amount in income tax outstanding.
