WATER FROM TAUPO,

TO SUPPLY BIG AEEA. (Special to "Northern Advocate.' , ) AUCKLAND, This Day. A proposal to form a metropolitan water board for the purpose of obtaining water supply from Taupo or elsewhere on the Waikato River will be considered by a conference of local I body representatives and the Auckland Chamber of Commerce this evening. The movement has been instituted by the Mount Eden Borough Council, which has circularised all local bodies in the vicinity of Auckland and those in the area between the city and the proposed source of supply. The circular states that the conference is being called in response to an inquiry from the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hughes. It is commonly admitttcd that a pure and adequate supply is required, and that the time has arrived when inquiries should be made into the possibility of providing a permanent system. This circular has elicited replies from local bodies interested, including those of the marine suburbs, most of which have intimated that they will be represented. It is understood that the conference this evening will be asko'l to affirm the principle of a board and authorise the expenditure of a sum sufficient to cover the cost of preliminary investigations.
