SEAMEN'S PROTEST.
IN THEIR OWN WAY. STEAMER DELAYED. (Special to "Northern Advocate.") AUCKLAND, This Day. The delay in the departure of the Union Steam Ship Company's Waiotapu is apparently the Union's new idea for enforcing its demands. Mr Anderson stated on Saturday that the Union was solely responsible, and he had issued orders to the men himself. The men were quite satisfied with the master and officers of the vessel. The strike was the outcome of a recent Court case, in which an employee of the Union Company was prosecutec 1 on a charge of supplying seamen, he being a person within the meaning of the Act entitled to do so.
Mr Anderson states that despite the Magistrate's decision the seamen allege that the man is still interesting himself in the supply of seamen. The delay of the Waiotapu was an act of protest against this. He also stated that he informed the manager of the Union Company and also the officers of the Waiotapu on Friday that the vessel would be delayed by the Union.
