A DRAWN GAME.

CHANCES LOST. N". AUCKLAND v. TARANAIvI. The representative football match between North Auckland and Taranaki was played at Hawera on Saturday. There was a good crowd of spectators. The weather was fine and the playing area in good condition. The match was very fast and the score, nine all, demonstrates the merits of the two tenuis. Chances of , scoring were sorely missed on both sides, principally among t'he backs, The Taranaki team is reputed to have the best provincial pack in the Dominion and it must be said that in the North Auckland division they met their match. Whilst the home pack had somewhat the better of the argument in close operations the Northerners were much the better in the loose. The Taranaki backs were much superior to the visitors' rearguard in the first spell, but as usufil the latter woke up in the second half and gave a good exhibition. During the progress of the game there were three accidents. Angus Finlayson 'having to retire was replaced by McLeod. Johnson and Sinclair of Taranaki were also casualties, Cameron and Coutts filling their places. The try-getters for North Auckland were Emerson and Moslen, and Hamilton kicked a penalty goal. Cunningham lost a certain try for hi.s side by getting ahead of his man.

Wade gave a faultless exhibition and outshone the Taranaki full-back, Sinclair. Moslcn and Simonsen both played great games, but Wightman in the centre position was disappointing. He was not up to standard and gavo his worst exhibition of the tour. Brydon, who was suffering from an injury, gavo a moderate exhibition, whilst Hamilton at times was erratic, having a penchant for cutting in too much and leaving his supporting backs stranded. Cunningham has the makings of a good half and was reliable throughout. Of the forwards Bunny Finlayson was the best on the ground, being closely followed by Sowmun and Rika. Warmington played his usual solid game.

Generally speaking, the tour displayed the team's weakness to be fhe five-eighths anil centre three-quarter positions.
