WINGING THEIR WAY.
AMERICAN AIRMEN. ITALIAN IN COMPANY. (Received .1 p.m.) LONDON, August 21. The American world flyers and the Italian, Lieutenant Loeatelli, have departed from Iceland for Greenland.
Authority for Lieutenant Locatelli to accompany the American round-the-world flyers from Reikjavik, Iceland, to Greenland, was given by the chief of the Air Service. He made a proviso that the ■commander of the American party, Lieutenant Smith, should be satisfied that the Italian's aeroplanewould not endanger the success of the flight. Plans have been made to refuel the a ir-<'misers at sea if necessary fn their long "hop" to Fredereikedal, Greenland, a distance of 525 miles. Nearer landing-places were abandoned owing to ice.
The flight will necessitate the machines being- 12 hours in the air. Every confidence is expressed that th:- trip Mill be made safely.—Renter.
