JETTY FOE MANGANESE POINT,
f; CRUISING CLUB OFFER
.-.For the general convenience of the* boating fraternity of Whangarei, the Cruising Club brought under notice of the. Whangarei Harbour Board the de- 'W? sirability of building a small jetty atManganeqe Point at the entrance to, Parua Bay. In a letter read at the". Board meeting yesterday Commodore F. Reynolds contended that the .proposed jetty if provided would, in addition to being a convenience for club members, be deeply appreciated by the numerous harbour excursionists who had hitherto been obliged to be boated ashore at this particular beauty spot. The members of the club were prepared to subsidise the jetty to the amount of £25.
The engineer, Mr W. M. Fraser, stated that the beach at Manganese Point was a particularly safe one, and pretty surroundings, and the Board's policy had been to preserve it. A safe bathing place for children could beyj \ made by fencing off a portion of the little bay. He had taken soundings and he considered that a landing jetty could be built for about £50. It would be cheaper, said Mr W. R. Patterson, if piles for the jetty were driven before the plant engaged upon the building of the Parua Bay wharf was removed. Mr Fraser undertook to submit a report upon the proposal to the next meeting of the Board. i °
