PARUA BAY PETITION.
WHITE POINT JETTY WANTED
A petition signed by '.17 settlers was forwarded from Parua Bay to the Wliangarei Harbour Hoard meeting yesterday asking tliat the timbers from the old wharf, which is being replaced by a new struct lire, should be utilised in building another jetty at Wliite Point, about three-quarters of a mile away. Such a jetty would be of immense benefit to the settlers, as it would obviate the tedious journey up what was known locally as Taiky's Hill in travelling to and from the existing wharf from one j end of the bay. j It was pointed out at the meeting j that there was no connection by road ! between the two sites except by a ! route two miles in lengtli over a steep I hill. j Mr E. Swann considered that another wha;-f at Parua Bay was unnecessary, while the chairman, Mr .T. D. McKen-7-ie, felt that what was really wanted, ' although oostly to make, was a road round the waterfront, which would give an easy access to the present wharf from other parts of the district. The application was referred for a report to the engineer, Mr W. M. Fraser, who said that it would cost ' about £2000 to build a suitable jetty tit White Point.
