ELDERLY MAN WAYLAID.
RELIEVED OF HIS CASH. (Special to "Northern Advocate.") AUCKLAND, This Day. Shortly after six o'clock last evening an elderly man, Mr Charles Philpot, was attacked by two young men who rifled his pockets and took about £12 in cash. Philpot was returning home from the city and had just left a tramcar. When about half-way to his house, which is less than 100 yards down Heme Bay Road, he was accosted bv two strangers who introduced themselves by asking a question about j the football match. Before Philpot | could rep\v the men seized him violent- j ly by t-lie arms. Within a few seconds 1 they had obtained his money and made '■ off into the darkness. Both were ac- j tive voting men. Philpot did not at- j tempt to give chase, but reported the matter to the police. The road is very badly ligthed at the spot where the robbery took place and it is evident that the assailants were aware of the identity of Mr Philpot and were acquainted with his movements.
