CAUGHT BY CURRENT.

DRIVER'S LUCKY ESCAPE. THREE HORSES DROWNED. MASTERTON, Thi.s Day. Through striking a strong current in fording the Waingawa River James Pouhy, a carting contractor of Master'ton, had a narrow escape from death. Foully was carting metal from the river and attempted to ford to the town side through the usual outlet. Three powerful horses were attached to the dray, but the velocity of the current tossed the dray completely over. Fouhy was thrown under the vehicle and had it not been for the tail board being broken Ms escape would have been impossi Ible, as the dray was securely arichpred. ■The horses were drowned.Press Assn.
