IMPORTED TIMBER.
MENACES AN INDUSTRY. INVERCARGILL, This Day. The Southalnd Sawmill Workers' Union decided vigorously to protest against the importation of foreign timbers and to bring the matter before the Prinme Minister and the Labour Leader. It was stated that the price of Baltic spruce butter boxes imported from Sweden was below the cost of production of white pine, due to lower wages. Unless something was done, it was contended, a large number of men would become unemployed.—Press Assn.
